A Look Back On 2024 At The Falmouth

April 24, 2025 | News

The approach of a new year is the perfect time to take stock of days gone by. As the year draws to a close, join us as we look back on a wild and wonderful 2024 at The Falmouth.

The purchase of an iconic seafront hotel

May of this year saw The Falmouth enter a brand-new era after its purchase by an experienced Cornish hotelier group – the Cornwall Hotel Collection. Stepping into a legacy of award-winning hospitality, the historic hotel once again fell back into local ownership. Alongside its new sister hotels The Greenbank and The Alverton, the famed Victorian leisure spot made for the perfect addition to The Cornwall Hotel Collection. Marking a significant milestone for Falmouth’s growing hospitality landscape, the possibilities for the Cornish seafront destination seemed truly endless, and remain so today.

A re-brand for The Falmouuth

With a new chapter comes a new look for our seaside gem, and with a little help from our Designer, Ella Brett, and some interior inspiration from Dynargh Design, The Falmouth is well on her way to fulfilling all the potential we see in her.

“We believe that The Falmouth Hotel should properly reflect the town’s vibrant spirit and rich heritage,” explains Ben Young, Managing Director of the Cornwall Hotel Collection. “Through careful restoration and strategic enhancements, we will create a hotel destination that celebrates Falmouth’s unique identity while offering outstanding hospitality.”

Renovations begin

We wasted no time in laying down our plans for this iconic seafront stay, and renovations soon began. Up went the scaffolding for a gentle facelift. Determined to preserve The Falmouth’s famous exterior, a light wash and a touch of paint has begun to wake our Grande Dame from her slumber. Ageing mantels and wasting wood were cut afresh.

The Camellia Room was the first to see our new interior look for The Falmouth, dressed in a sage green with wooden floors and a fresh new chandelier. What’s more, the driveway has been freshly paved, ready to welcome you onto the grounds.

A brand-new menu

Headed up by Executive Chef Nick Hodges, the new and improved Castle View restaurant focuses on British cuisine with Cornish influences hand-picked from the cookbooks and kitchens of past generations. After a thorough inspection last week, we’re thrilled to share that our kitchen has been awarded the highest five-star rating for food safety and compliance.

With a stunning ocean scene as your backdrop, you can peruse the latest menu with while the sea sparkles in the distance. Choose from light bites to stone baked pizzas, afternoon tea and Sunday lunch. Informed by the seasons, inspired by the senses, supplied by the best.

Uncovering the sauna

Boarded up under previous ownership, we were determined to uncover the sauna that had been hidden away. After a spot of maintenance and a little touch up, the big reveal did not disappoint.

Alongside our heated pool, which has seen its own facelift over the last few months, The Falmouth can now offer a moment of peace and tranquillity to guests and visitors alike.

A look back in time

With the start of a new dawn for our seaside icon, we couldn’t help but look back at some of the happy days spent here over the years. From 50s wedding day photography to 60s family snaps in the old outdoor pool, we’ve received some beautiful memories so far, giving us a wonderful insight into days long gone at The Falmouth Hotel.

With one eye always looking to the rich tapestry of the past, we continue to explore The Falmouth’s incredible history, and invite you to share your fondest memories of our Victorian hotel in days gone by.

Playing host to Falmouth Week

The blue-skied days of August brought with them another fabulous Falmouth Week this year, and our elegant hotel was at the heart of it all. Welcoming locals and visitors alike to its sweeping grounds, we had a perfect vantage point for the aerial display that took place.

The stunning seafront location was the cherry on top of a perfect day as we served burgers and hotdogs fresh from the BBQ, alongside cream teas with jam and clotted cream courtesy of Rodda’s and their beautiful vintage van. On days like these it’s easy to see why our enchanting hotel has been such a social centrepiece here in Falmouth over the years.

A holly jolly Christmas

This season we decked the halls and strung the lights for a Christmas at the Falmouth like never before.

Having hosted a magical Christmas market by Swanpool Events mid November, the success of the weekend set us all up for a very merry Christmas by the sea.

As we look back on 2024 at The Falmouth, we can’t help but delight in what an incredible year it’s been. With exciting plans in place and fresh memories made, we can’t wait to uncover that magic of 2025 as we continue to bring our Victorian hotel into a brand-new era.
