A Renovation Update at The Falmouth

December 24, 2024 | News

For those of you who’ve been following the tale of this much-loved Victorian hotel, we’d like to give you an exciting renovation update here at The Falmouth. From a start on some fresh interiors to careful exterior touch ups, join us as we gently wake our sleeping beauty by the sea.

A gentle face lift

The Falmouth has been a landmark hotel for centuries, standing miles apart on its seafront location with an iconic exterior. Passing years had made our Victorian beauty a look little tired, but we were determined to make her shine once more.

Up went the scaffolding for a gentle facelift. Determined to preserve The Falmouth’s famous exterior, a light wash and a touch of paint has begun to wake our Grande Dame from her slumber. Ageing mantels and wasting wood were cut afresh. The before and after photos just go to show the difference this has made, and it’s wonderful to see this historic hotel beginning to emerge from her hibernation.

Putting the splash back in the pool

We’re lucky enough to be able to offer the perk of an indoor pool, if a little cold and dreary when we first began our work.

With a bit of elbow grease, a good scrub and a fresh coat of paint, it didn’t take long before our pool area felt a little more luxurious, inviting guests and visitors alike to take a dip in much warmer water than before. Comfy new loungers line the walls, and touches of gold and brass add a cosy feel to the area, making for a space to enjoy a tranquil moment.

We also made it our mission to uncover the sauna which had been boarded up and closed away. With a little help from our maintenance team, we had it fixed up and running in no time. Now a perfectly peaceful place to ponder life after a dip in the pool, The Falmouth’s facilities have become a hub of relaxation.

A brand-new look

While the grand Camellia Room certainly had a striking look when we first stepped over The Falmouth’s threshold, we felt that it wasn’t quite in keeping with the laid-back elegance that our enchanting Victorian hotel by the sea exuded.

With Dynargh Design at the helm, it’s received a fresh new look. Up came the carpets and down came the red chandelier and bright wallpaper in favour of something a little more sophisticated.

A calming sage green now adorns the walls with hardwood under foot and the warm glow of a crystal chandelier up above. With a refreshed look, we felt it was time for a name that matched the elegance of the space. Introducing the 1865 Lounge, a nod to the year our doors first opened, marking a legacy of warm welcomes and timeless charm. See the before and after pictures below.

Paving the way

With 71 bedrooms, an extensive restaurant and an indoor pool and gym, it’s understandable that The Falmouth has lots of visitors throughout the year. Naturally, easy access is a must for our iconic hotel, but the driveway and carpark were in need of some serious TLC. Plagued with potholes and patches from over the years, we’ve now set to work in smoothing it all out and can offer a smooth journey onto our grounds.

The bar’s elegant interiors

First elevating the looks of our new 1865 Lounge, Dynargh’s talents have turned to our bar area, now an elegant space in which to recline with a drink or a bite to eat in the cosy comfort of fresh new armchairs and sofas.

Accompanied by warm lighting, coastal artwork, wooden flooring, fresh plants and stunning contemporary chandeliers, The Falmouth’s new story is beginning to unfold nicely.

We’re only at the beginning of our journey to restore The Falmouth to her former glory, so make sure to follow our story here and on social media for all the renovation updates as we go along.
