Meet Our Design Specialist, Ella
With a flair for creativity and an eye for the details that perfectly capture the essence of each unique hotel, Ella’s talents lie at the heart of the Cornwall Hotel Collection. With a hand firmly placed in the re-branding of The Falmouth, we sat down with our brilliant design specialist to get a sneak peek behind the scenes.
Tell me about how you became a graphic designer.
I graduated as a textile print designer, and after working for many years within that industry, I wanted to expand my design knowledge so I did a masters in graphic design, which has meant I can combine all my design knowledge and include my illustration skills nicely.
Tell me about your role within the Cornwall Hotel Collection.
As the designer for the CHC, I create anything visible which is through brand and print, from creating adverts, to designing and hand painting chalkboards to menus and developing brand guidelines and assets.
What is it that you love most about your job?
How varied it is, one day I can be designing and making lampshades and the next creating editorial brochures.
Tell me about some of the exciting things you’ve been involved in with the re-branding of The Falmouth.
This was such an exciting project to take on. I was heavily involved with the re-brand, looking at the direction the hotel was to go in, and how to create and develop the brand visuals. This included logo, fonts, colour palette and illustrations to suit. It’s an ongoing project but it’s incredible to see it all taking place.
Where do you live and what do you like most about it?
I live in Falmouth, walking distance to The Greenbank and The Falmouth hotels. The walk to work is so peaceful along the river. I also live very close to the wonderful bars and restaurants Falmouth has to offer which means I’m in my element. My favourite spot in the world is on the rocks between Gyllyngvase and Swanpool, where my dog loves to find the best rocks and I can find my peace looking out to sea.
What do you like to do with your time outside of work?
I create my own illustrations and designs in my free time, along with taking my pooch for lovely walks, drinking great wine and eating delicious local food.
