Meet Our Operations Manager, Rob

August 11, 2026 | News

Meet our Operations Manager, Rob, and discover what makes The Falmouth special, from its historic character and seafront setting, to the people who bring it to life every day.

Can you tell us a little about your role as Operations Manager at The Falmouth Hotel?

As Operations Manager, my role is really about bringing the different teams together and making sure we’re all working towards the same goal: giving our guests the best possible experience. A big part of my role is supporting and developing the team, helping to solve any challenges that come up and making sure everyone has what they need to do their job well.

I’m very much a hands-on person, so I like being visible around the hotel and working alongside the team.

No two days are ever the same. What does a typical day look like for you?

There really isn’t a typical day, which is one of the things I love about the role! I’ll usually start by checking in with the different teams and making sure everyone is set up for the day ahead. From there, it could be anything from supporting a team member with a challenge, catching up with colleagues, checking in on the guest experience or looking at ways we can improve how we work together.

For me, a big part of every day is communication – making sure everyone feels supported, knows what’s happening and feels part of the bigger picture. When the team works well together, the whole hotel benefits from it.

What do you enjoy most about working across so many different areas of the hotel?

Definitely the people. I really enjoy getting to know the different teams and understanding what makes each department tick. Everyone brings something unique to the hotel, and I think the best operations happen when people feel valued and supported.

I also love seeing how the different departments rely on each other. When everyone communicates well and pulls together, you can really see the difference it makes to the guest experience. Being part of that and helping to create a positive team culture is probably one of the things I enjoy most about my role.

What do you think makes The Falmouth such a special place to work and visit?

It’s the combination of the history, the location and, most importantly, the people. The Falmouth has so much character and a real sense of history, but there’s also a lovely, relaxed Cornish feel to it.

It’s also a really exciting time to be part of the hotel. The refurbishment plans are bringing a new energy to The Falmouth, and seeing the progress so far has been amazing. There’s already such a noticeable difference, and the plans for the rooms over the winter are looking really exciting. It’s great to see the hotel evolving and being invested in while still retaining the character, history and identity that makes it so special.

For me, it’s particularly special to see the pride our team has in the hotel. There’s a real sense of being part of something with a story, while also helping to create the next chapter and new memories for the people who visit us.

If you were welcoming someone staying with us for the first time, what would you encourage them not to miss during their visit?

I’d encourage them to really make the most of being in Falmouth. Take a walk along the seafront, explore the town, spend some time by the water and soak up the history of the area. And I’d say don’t be afraid to slow down. Find somewhere with a good view, have a drink and just enjoy being here. We’re very lucky to be in such a beautiful part of Cornwall.

What’s your favourite spot in the hotel, and why?

I think it has to be the top of the staircase. It’s such a beautiful and distinctive part of the hotel. When you stand at the top and look down through the four floors, with the staircase curving all the way down to the ground floor, you really appreciate the scale and character of the building.

What do you hope every guest remembers long after they’ve checked out?

I hope they remember how we made them feel. Of course, the hotel, the history and the views are all part of the experience, but it’s the little moments of genuine hospitality that people tend to remember.

When you’re not at work, where’s your favourite place to spend time in Falmouth or Cornwall?

Without a doubt, the beach and the sea. When I’m not at work, that’s where you’ll most likely find me! I love being in or around the water. It’s the perfect way to switch off, and I think we’re incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful coastline right on our doorstep.
