“Falmouth deserves its eponymous hotel to shine brightly as a beacon of pride for the town,” says Managing Director, Ben Young. “We believe that The Falmouth should properly reflect the town’s vibrant spirit and rich heritage. Through careful restoration and strategic enhancements, this iconic establishment will continue to celebrate Falmouth’s unique identity while offering outstanding hospitality.”
One Year With The Cornwall Hotel Collection
This May, we celebrated not only 160 years since our doors first opened, but also one year with the Cornwall Hotel Collection. It’s been a remarkable twelve months of thoughtful transformation, and this is just the beginning.
This month marks a special milestone for The Falmouth. While the hotel proudly celebrates 160 years since it first opened its doors in 1865, it also commemorates one year under the stewardship of the Cornwall Hotel Collection. With The Greenbank and The Alverton as sister properties, The Falmouth has joined a family of historic Cornish hotels committed to thoughtful hospitality, authentic charm, and meaningful restoration.
In just twelve months, this Victorian Grande Dame has begun an exciting new chapter. Careful enhancements have breathed fresh life into the hotel’s communal areas, honouring its heritage while welcoming in a new era. From the moment you step inside, it’s clear that something special is underway. The 1865 Lounge, named in tribute to the hotel’s founding year, has been transformed into a warm and welcoming retreat. Soft textures, a coastal-inspired palette, large-scale artworks, and timber floors now create a calm and characterful space – one designed to encourage guests to pause, take in the surroundings, and feel truly at ease.
The bar and lounge area has also been refreshed to let the panoramic views over the tropical gardens and sweeping coastline truly shine. Whether enjoying a leisurely lunch or an indulgent afternoon tea, it’s now a bright and elegant space designed to be savoured. Meanwhile, our spa, gym, and pool have been transformed into light-filled, inviting areas for wellness and relaxation. Outside, a full repaint and newly resurfaced car park mark the beginning of the changes still to come.
The Castle View restaurant is currently undergoing a redesign that reflects this same philosophy – one rooted in respect for the past and excitement for what’s ahead. Though still in progress, each change reflects the Cornwall Hotel Collection’s deep appreciation for the building’s history and a clear commitment to restoring its rightful place as one of Cornwall’s most cherished coastal retreats.
At the heart of the hotel’s evolution is a desire to preserve its legacy while embracing modern comforts and style. Matt Hulme of Dynargh Design describes the ethos behind the project: “The inspiration behind the new interiors stems from the rich heritage and architectural elegance of the building itself. With its storied past and an abundance of original features, the hotel offers a remarkable canvas. This isn’t about transformation, but refinement.”
Twelve months on, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in just one year, and even more excited for what lies ahead. The Falmouth’s story is still being written – and we look forward to welcoming you to experience this next chapter with us.
